New Impressions: Summer Walker, James Bay, Nightly, Karol G, and more!

Summer Walker released a brand new EP today. Life on Earth is her first release since her platinum selling debut record Over It was released in 2019. The emotionally-charged five track EP features collaborations from PARTYNEXTDOOR and NO1-NOAH. Walker is hosting a socially distant laser tag and listening party in Atlanta tomorrow in honor of the release. Get more details about the event here.

James Bay is back with an uplifting dance tune titled “Chew On My Heart”. Bay is well known for pouring his heart and soul into his music and this single is no different. The track begins soft and slow with just James and a guitar before it cascades into a dance track. The music video follows the simplified formula that most content is taking on because of the pandemic. Watch the music video for “Chew On My Heart” below.

Nightly released their next synth laden track “not like you”. The song takes on fleeting opportunities and the tasks that usually easier said than done like telling someone you love them. Frontman Jonathan Capeci describes the track as “one of those songs that just came out super fast”. The song was written pre-quarantine in a Nashville studio. Oscar Lang is continuing his journey from lo-fi aficionado to gritty rock vocalists. His latest single “Apple Juice” shows a new side of the songwriter as he embraces vintage rock sound. He has come a long way since his mellow tunes from 2017/2018. The retro fitted music video takes listeners on a slightly psychedelic visual journey. We should all be thanking Lang for working to fill the void that Oasis left behind for all of us with a modern spin.

Karol G released the furry music video for her new track “Ay, DiOs Mio!”. The track takes on pop sensibilities and flow while maintaining her roots in reggaeton/dance oriented rhythm. The video features a muted color scheme and simplified visual of Karol G having a good time with her dancers. The song is a perfect mid-summer wind down track.

This is our first New Impressions feature since April. Other additions to the playlist this week include Dominic Fike, Baby Rose, H.E.R, Christian French, and more. To be featured on Impressions Magazine send us an email
