Review: The Trews Perform a Mesmerizing Stripped Down Set for Their NYC Album Release Show

Canadian rockers, The Trews, released their album Civilianaires on September 14th, but played a packed out album release show at City Winery in NYC. They have been around since 2004 and have been a staple in Canada’s rock music scene. Even considered “one of the best live bands” in Canada.

Despite the sit down atmosphere and fancy dinner service happening throughout the night and during The Trews’ set, they still mesmerized the crowd with their smooth harmonies and multi-instrumental performance. The band had to perform a stripped down set because their gear was in Buffalo, but this added a special element that was very fitting for the venue.

It was incredible to see how the band brought such a high energy album to a seemingly tame set. Almost reminiscent of acoustic country music with a rock edge, the set brought to light their strong lyricism and charismatic personalities. Civilianaires came to life in a beautiful way at City Winery and it is easily one of the best rock albums released this fall. See photos from the night below and listen to the album. Check out their upcoming tour dates here.
